Supplement Superstore Reviews: Alani Nu Balance
The Supplement Superstore Reviews blog series is one where we tell you which products we’ve personally tried and give you our honest opinion. There are many supplement review sites out there, and we know that it’s hard to tell what’s a promotion and what’s an honest review.
While Supplement Superstore sells all the products we review for this series, we promise these are our unfiltered thoughts. Today we’re talking about one of Alani Nu’s most popular women’s supplements—Alani Nu Balance.
Alani Nu Balance
Alani Nu Balance is the brand’s signature product, marketed as a hormone balancing women’s supplement. It claims to:
- support a healthy hormonal balance
- help manage body weight
- improve complexion
- support fertility
Hormone supplements are typically herbal blended women’s supplements (although there is a market for men’s hormone supplements as well). They’re generally marketed as women’s supplements because, let’s face it, women are more greatly affected by hormone fluctuations, and they’re more associated with hormones in general.
The Low Down on Women’s Supplements for Hormones
Hormone supplements are not the same as what’s used in hormone therapy.
Hormone therapy is a doctor-prescribed treatment plan for things like:
- breast cancer
The prescription drugs used in hormone therapy might contain actual hormones or products that directly cause the stoppage or increase in the production of certain hormones.
Hormone supplements contain herbal ingredients that help restore the body’s natural balance and can be used without a prescription (although we always recommend talking with your primary care physician before beginning a supplement regimen). Women’s supplements like hormone supplements may or may not be backed by research that supports their effectiveness. These are blended products with no specific formula, so unfortunately, the responsibility lies with the consumer to research the ingredients and determine their effectiveness.
If you suspect a hormonal imbalance, you could be dealing with various symptoms like:
- acne, especially painful cystic acne
- painful, irregular periods
- hair loss
- weight gain or loss
Your first step should be to talk with your doctor to rule out any serious medical conditions—your hormones aren’t something you want to mess with. If everything seems alright according to your doctor, you might want to try some women’s supplements designed to support your hormones.
Alani Nu Balance contains:
myo-inositol and ALA to promote fertility and insulin responsiveness
l-glutathione to improve the appearance of the skin
DIM to regulate estrogen production
chromium to support blood sugar and weight management
folate to support fetal development (in the event of pregnancy) and cardiovascular, neural, and emotional health
About the Writer
Before we get into our review of Alani Nu Balance, we’d like to give you some information about the writer. Normally, our reviews don’t mention the writer. However, the information is more relevant for women’s supplements of this nature.
I am a 29-year-old, very active woman who has experienced a hormonal imbalance since the birth and subsequent breastfeeding of two babies back-to-back. My irritating symptoms included:
- painful cystic acne along the jawline
- excessive fatigue
- irregular periods with painful ovulation and abdominal cramping
These symptoms lasted roughly two years after the birth of my youngest son. While doctors advised me that it can take up to two years after breastfeeding for hormones to naturally level out, I was desperate for some more immediate relief. Hearing the rave reviews of the popular women’s supplement, Alani Nu Balance, I decided to give it a try.
It’s also worth noting that I tried the capsule version of this product, and now Alani Nu Balance is also available in a powder supplement. Typically, our supplement reviews focus on things like taste and texture, but as this is a capsule product, we’ll talk about the experience of using it along with the noticeable effects.
Capsule Size of Alani Nu Balance
Alani Nu Balance comes in large-sized veggie capsules. We like the use of veggie capsules, so the product is veg-friendly. There is no noticeable taste or aftertaste when you consume this product.
Alani Nu Balance Serving Size
The serving size is four of these large capsules, which is a lot of pills even on its own. Personally, I struggled with a bit of “pill fatigue” as my multi-vitamin is an additional three large-sized capsules.
The women’s supplement is sold in a 30-day supply, so it comes with enough to support you through one menstrual cycle.
I used Alani Nu Balance as directed (four capsules daily, in the morning with breakfast) and completed the bottle. There was no immediate effect noticeable from the first dose, however by the end of the bottle, my cycle did go more smoothly than it had been. I experienced:
- significantly less cramping
- slightly less acne
- slightly less daily fatigue
At the end of the bottle, I decided not to purchase again, based mostly on the price and that the results weren’t extremely noticeable. We can’t speak to whether this product becomes even more effective over time, although we suspect it does.
We give Alani Nu Balance a ranking of seven out of ten. While results were noticeable in just one week, we feel the price is slightly above what you’d expect to pay for even a high-quality woman’s supplement.
While the overall experience taking Alani Nu Balance was a good one, our reduced rank comes mostly from something we haven’t mentioned; lack of scientific research to back the effectiveness of this women’s supplement.
Do Customers Agree?
No, in this case, our customers would likely rank this product much higher than we have. In fact, reviews for Alani Nu Balance are typically very high across the board. People love this product and often rave about its “life-changing” effects.
Who is Alani Nu
Alani Nu is a supplement company started by fitness influencer Katy Hearn. Hearn’s influence spans across Canada and the United States. Alani Nu has quickly risen to one of the most popular women’s supplement brands globally.
While we personally have had good experiences with all Alani Nu products, and people worldwide rave about the effects, the one thing that stops us from really loving this brand is their lack of third-party testing.
The brand is GMP certified, which is a great start. However, when you’re making the claims Alani Nu Balance makes about women’s hormones and fertility, it’s important to have science to back up what you’re saying.
People rave and rave about Balance, so why not go the extra mile to show that the proof is in the pudding?
