Next up, we’re talking about the Vega All-in-One Protein Shake! This is a vegan protein shake and then some. It’s got additional vitamins, fruits, veggies, and more. A shake like this has various applications, from weight loss to weight management and even gaining weight. This isn’t the best-tasting or best-textured protein shake on the market, but despite that, we absolutely love it! Let’s take a closer look so you can understand why we feel this way and hopefully give it a try so you can see for yourself!

As with protein bars or any other nutritional supplement, protein shakes have their critics. On the internet, you’ll find people on either side of the fence—they love protein shakes and can’t live without them, or the shakes are a waste of time and money because they’re totally unnecessary. 

However, when you’re an active individual that doesn’t eat meat or animal products (because you’re vegan or for any other reason), it can be challenging to consume enough protein to meet your daily requirements. That challenge is amplified if you’re trying to gain muscle!

While it’s totally possible to get to those protein goals with whole foods on a vegan diet, just like any other diet, it can also be much more convenient to add a protein shake to your daily regimen. When used appropriately, protein shakes can:

  • help maintain a healthy weight
  • increase muscle mass
  • improve recovery
  • reduce delayed-onset muscle soreness

We like to include protein shakes as a staple, basic supplement for most people. We find that many active people are not consuming enough protein to support their activity level, and protein shakes are an easy fix. However, as with all other supplements, we do not recommend that they be your primary source for protein or anything else.

When we talk about protein powders, the primary thing we look at is the protein content. The king of protein supplements is still whey protein, although plant-based protein powders have certainly exploded in popularity over the last several years.

When we’re talking about vegan protein powders specifically, we like to be sure that the supplement is, at least, a complete source of protein.

What is a Complete Source of Protein?

A complete protein source contains all twenty-plus necessary amino acids required by the body to synthesize new protein. Typically, animal products like meat and dairy are naturally complete protein sources, while plant sources lack one or more amino acids and are incomplete.

People used to be concerned about plant-based proteins not being a whole source because it was believed that all amino acids needed to be consumed simultaneously to be effective.

This is no longer a concern because we know that if all amino acids are consumed over a day, the body has what it needs to build muscle. Additionally, we’re no longer concerned because all quality, plant-based sports nutrition products are thoughtfully made with multiple sources to ensure a complete amino acid profile in one convenient shake.

So, we like protein shakes in general, and we love the Vega All-in-One Shake for anyone looking for a plant-based protein powder. We especially like the Vega All-in-One Shake for people who are strict vegans or vegetarians, and we’ll talk about why next.

Vega All-in-One Shake Ingredients

As the name suggests, the Vega All-in-One Shake is more than just a protein shake. In addition to a quality source of complete, plant-based protein, this shake serves as:

  • a multivitamin
  • a greens supplement
  • an omega fatty acid supplement
  • a probiotic supplement

With all that said, we like this nutrient-dense shake specifically as an addition to your morning routine more than a post-workout recovery protein shake. The nutritional profile is as follows:

  • 170 calories
  • 5 grams of fat
  • 1.5 mg omega 3 fatty acids
  • 13 grams of carbohydrates
  • 7 grams of fibre
  • 1 gram of sugar
  • 20 grams of protein

50% (or more) of the daily recommended value of vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin D, vitamin K, thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, and vitamin B6

It’s worth noting that there are more vitamins and minerals in the Vega All-in-One Shake in less than 50% of the recommended value quantities. 

So, we love this shake! What an impressive nutrient profile in a single supplement! However, things get a little hairy when it comes to taste and texture. We will say that if you’re well-versed in vegan supplements and have tried a bunch, the Vega All-in-One Shake is one of the better ones. However, if you’re used to your smooth-like-butter whey protein shakes and you want to give this protein shake a go for the nutrients—good for you! But… you might be in for a bit of a shock.

While we’ve said that the taste and texture aren’t the greatest, the taste is not the main problem. Instead, the texture is more off-putting. However, as we all know, taste and texture affect each other a great deal, so the texture does come into play here a little.

If we’re talking taste strictly, the Vega All-in-One Shake is actually really good! Of the flavours, we’d stick to good old French vanilla or chocolate (although it is offered in eight flavours). With these two flavours you won’t notice a nasty aftertaste or anything like that.

Alright, so we’ve arrived at the texture—it’s not great. As far as plant-based protein powders go, though, it’s still one of the better ones! However, it does have some grit unless you tap into your inner Hulk with a shaker bottle.

For best results, mix it in a blender with some ice-cold water or your milk alternative of choice, and drink immediately after mixing.

Pro-tip—skip mixing in extras like creatine with this shake; it’s not worth messing with the already touchy texture.

It’s hard to rank the Vega All-in-One Shake as high as it rightfully deserves when we know some customers who aren’t familiar with plant-based proteins might try this product and be shocked and disappointed by the taste/texture we’ve done our best to describe above.

We give this protein shake an eight out of ten, but it’s painful to do so because we love it so much.
